Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8)

The Housing Choice Voucher Program allows families to live in houses that are owned by private landlords. Rents are based on comparable rental units in the county, with amenities and utilities taken into account. This is accomplished through a contract between the owner and the Housing Authority which subsidizes the rent that the tenant pays with a “Housing Assistance Payment” provided by an Annual Contributions Contract from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Families, elderly, disabled, handicapped and single people may be eligible for housing based on their income.
